During the investigation in rising occurrences of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs, the FDA has concluded with a list of pet food brand they believe are contributing to the disease. Some of the top market brands can be found on this list.

The Eastern Phoebe typically doesn’t live in Missouri year-round but rather migrates into the state around early March. They hang out here until early October when they begin their migration south. While here, they typically have at least two clutches of eggs with 2-6 eggs per clutch.

I’ve always been an animal lover but had never paid an incredible amount of attention…

President of the Caruthersville Humane Society, Karol Wilcox, frequently audits the books at her shelter and over the past several months she’s noticed a growing trend.

When she compared the number of dogs being reported lost or stolen, to the number of dogs found or returned, she saw a rapidly growing gap in numbers. That gap was in the small dog category.

Wilcox says it’s not just pets being reported to the shelter and local authorities. She frequently monitors lost and found pet pages on Facebook and says the number of small dogs she sees missing , just disappearing and never being seen again has increased incredibly.

This time of year most of my friends would be quick to reply “Great! Fantastic! Cards at a 3-1 victory on Wednesday winning their first sweep at Dodger Stadium since 2006.”

No. Those aren’t the birds I was referring to. But hey, Go Cards!

Does this now make me guilty of click bait?

Nice title right? Catchy. Well, it’s what’s keeping me up at night and if you…

My third grade teacher once told me, “Never say or do anything that you wouldn’t want  to see splashed all over the morning newspaper.” Words to live by.

In this day and age, one would think the same goes with social media. One would also think that this is something a reporter would be privy to.

But not Delta Dunklin Democrat reporter, Laura Ford. It’s likely she’s learning though, since she publicly posted her advertisement of two dogs, in need of a home, on Facebook- if advertisement is what you want to call it.

Three years ago Harry was adopted from a bootheel shelter by a lady truck driver from Canada. And then there’s Walter.

There are some people in this world that cannot turn a blind eye to anyone or any creature in need.
One of those people is Amanda Snyder. She’s a nurse by trade and therefore a daily caregiver to people. She’s the type of pet owner who provides her dogs with their own bedroom, equipped with their own real beds with mattresses, complete with pillows and blankets. She feeds the turtles and fish in the lake behind her home.

Erin knew of Skelly’s past and was impressed with how far he had come since his initial rescue. She worked with him on socialization and playing skills and his tendency to be nippy and mouth people’s hands during play time. She was amazed that Skelly really didn’t know how to simply be a dog.

“We do not tolerate animal neglect in Hayti,” Hayti Chief of Police Paul Sheckell said. “We want to send a message that we will prosecute animal abuse when it is called to our attention.”

When a local utility worker made the report, no one at CHS-PAWS had any idea what kind of situation they were walking into. The details were simple. There was a Pit Bull in the back of someone’s yard and it was in very poor condition.
